Hundreds of eligible voters participated in the two-day Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise held at the Federal College of Agriculture, Hotoro, Kano, marking another significant milestone in the ongoing statewide campaign to boost voter registration and democratic participation.
The Chairman of the Labour Sub-Committee of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, who supervised the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout, particularly the large number of elderly citizens and first-time voters who registered to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He described the development as a major step toward expanding democratic participation and ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
According to Comrade Ibrahim, the exercise attracted participants from both the public and private sectors, including workers, staff and students of the Federal College of Agriculture, as well as residents of neighbouring communities.
He commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their professionalism, efficiency and commitment, noting that their dedication ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the registration exercise.
The Labour Sub-Committee chairman also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu A. Zango, for facilitating the deployment of INEC personnel through the leadership and coordination of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration, chaired by Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
He further thanked the Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Hotoro, Dr. Salisu Salisu, alongside the institution’s management and staff, for providing a conducive environment that contributed to the success of the exercise.
Comrade Ibrahim urged eligible citizens who have yet to register not to miss the opportunity, reminding the public that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise will end on July 10. He encouraged prospective registrants to visit the nearest INEC Local Government office before the deadline.
He also praised the efforts of student volunteers who assisted prospective registrants with the online pre-registration process, describing their dedication and commitment as exemplary and a model worthy of emulation by other young people.
In addition, he acknowledged the contributions of the committee’s Secretary, Comrade Usman Bello, and Malam Aliyu Sani of the Task Force Secretariat, whose innovative ideas and effective coordination played a key role in the successful execution of the programme.
Reaffirming the committee’s commitment to promoting civic engagement, Comrade Ibrahim said the Labour Sub-Committee would sustain voter education campaigns beyond the close of the registration exercise. He noted that awareness programmes would be intensified across workplaces and communities to encourage registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in future elections.
He stressed that widespread voter registration, prompt PVC collection and active participation in elections remain essential pillars for strengthening democracy and ensuring that the voices of citizens are reflected in governance.
