Gaya Emir Backs CVR Campaign, Seeks Greater Public Participation

The Emir of Gaya, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Abdulkadir, has urged eligible residents of the emirate to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the voter card as an indispensable tool for promoting democracy and ensuring the emergence of credible leaders.

The monarch made the appeal while receiving members of the sub Committee on Traditional Institutions of the State Taskforce Committee on Mobilization for Voter Registration (CVR) under the Dan Malikin Kano, Comrade Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, during an advocacy visit to the palace.

Speaking during the visit, Dan Maliki appreciated Emirates role across Kano State, which contributed significantly in huge success recorded, noting that emirs and other traditional rulers play a critical role in mobilising communities and educating the public on the importance of voter registration.

He said the committee was established to raise awareness on the need for every eligible citizen to register and obtain a PVC, stressing that the card remains the only legitimate means through which citizens can elect leaders and influence the country’s democratic process.

“The Permanent Voter Card is more than an identification document; it is the voice of the people and the foundation of democratic participation. Every eligible Nigerian should take advantage of the registration exercise,” he said.

Responding, the Emir of Gaya urged residents of the emirate to take the CVR exercise seriously, saying widespread participation in elections is essential to achieving accountable leadership and sustainable development.

He also directed all district and village heads under the Gaya Emirate to intensify sensitisation campaigns within their respective communities to ensure that all eligible residents register and obtain their PVCs ahead of future elections.

The monarch further commended the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for establishing the CVR mobilisation committee, saying the initiative would strengthen voter awareness and deepen democratic participation across the state.
