The Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Maharazu, has urged the Taskforce Committee on Mobilization for Voter Card Registration to sustain public enlightenment on the importance of collecting Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) after the registration exercise.
The Emir made the call when he received the Chairman of the Traditional Institutions Sub-Committee of the Taskforce, Comrade Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, and members of the committee during an advocacy visit to the Karaye Emirate.
Speaking during the visit, the traditional ruler commended the committee for its efforts in mobilising eligible residents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, describing the initiative as a major boost to voter education across the state.
He noted that the Karaye Emirate had consistently sensitised the public on the importance of voter registration and democratic participation, adding that the committee’s intervention would further strengthen the awareness campaign.
The Emir, however, stressed that the committee should not end its assignment with voter registration alone.
According to him, the committee should embark on another round of sensitisation after the registration exercise to educate residents on the need to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, noting that registration without collecting the PVC would prevent eligible citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote.
He emphasised that meaningful democratic participation can only be achieved when citizens register, collect their PVCs and use them to elect leaders of their choice.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Comrade Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, said the committee had continued to receive tremendous support from traditional institutions across Kano State in its efforts to mobilise residents for the CVR exercise.
He described traditional rulers as strategic partners in promoting civic responsibility and strengthening democracy through voter education.
Yakasai also commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for establishing the CVR committee, saying the initiative would enhance voter awareness, improve participation in the electoral process and deepen democracy in the state.
